Record Temps

During the first ten days of 2012 we broke 5 record high temps.

The weatherman says that we broke 7 last month (or was it all last year.... I didn't catch it.)

I love the weather that we've had the past nine months!

Record Shattering Temps

The previous record temperature for Fargo ND was 40 degrees on January 5th. Well today we shattered that record with 55 degrees!! Infact we broke the ALL TIME record making today the warmest January day in recorded history! Gorgeous day!

This winter has been awesome, weather-wise! We were still experiencing 80 degree temps all through October. We have only gotten snow once and that wasn't until the end of December. We still have not experienced subzero temps this winter! All of this is very unusual for our area!! I'm loving it!

I drive a school bus.... and these dry, visible roads are awesome! We just finished 3 years of record snows and floods. This is a nice change! (Sorry ice skaters and snow mobilers)

Jodi's Birthday

At work, we celebrated Jodi's 59th birthday. Oops.... I meant 48th birthday. (Inside joke, in case Jodi is reading this post, ha ha) We gave her card and an ice cream cake with a candle that sang Happy Birthday.

I love to tease Jodi. I know that she hates getting her picture taken. I prearranged it so that all the gals had a camera hidden in their pockets. When I brought out the birthday cake, Jodi looked at the cake and then at the table full of co-workers and instead of me with a camera... (ha ha) EVERYONE had a camera taking pictures.
It was all in fun... and we got a lot of pictures of Jodi hiding her face. (chuckle)

New Year's Resolution

I did it! I did it! I did it! I kept my 2011 New Year's Resolution! I gave up sugar for a whole year! (I am such a sugar-aholic) Guess what I'm having for breakfast..... left over caramel corn that has been taunting me since Christmas.

What a wonderful Christmas!

Jenny & Matt, and Jamie, Ryan, Sierra & Brooklynn and Dave & I went to church together. I think that it is so important to celebrate Jesus' birthday before we celebrate the other Christmas stuff. (Priorities) It just warms my heart to be in church with my kids. I feel like a unified force telling Jesus that we ALL love him and that we acknowledge that He also is a member of the family.

After church we all came out to our house. Everyone brought snacky food and everyone ate and ate and ate. Chips, dip, veggies, more dip, cheese sticks, more dip, meatballs, little weinners, cookies, candy, and more.

We did something different this year. Jason, Bekki & Farrah are in Colorado so they joined us while we opened presents via Skype. I set up my newest webcam on top of our large TV. It felt as though they were in the same room as we were. Cool! (gotta love technology)

Everyone slept over. I just thought of some thing funny. This was the first time that Matt has slept in our house. He and Jenny are married this year.....

We all slept in until 7:30/8:00 and then checked out all the Christmas stockings. I had previously said that I wasn't stuffing stockings anymore... (no one spent the night last yr so all the stocking stuffings were sent home as a gift.... which kind of defeated the purpose) But! When I heard that everyone was staying over night this year I bought stuffers. I sooo enjoyed it. It FELT normal.... like Christmas.

We also did something else different this year. We drew names instead of buying for everyone. That was different! I didn't think that I would like it. It felt strange not buying all our kids Christmas presents.... but it turned out okay. (My bank account likes this idea) Filling the Christmas stockings helped make Christmas feel more normal. (BTW, the little ones got gifts from everyone)

Another thing that made Christmas seem abnormal was that we didn't have any snow this year, a brown Christmas. Now that's something that doesn't happen very often in Kindred, North Dakota. I'm not complaining! I love it. It's warm outside and the dry roads make driving my school bus really easy!

Dave made eggs benedit (sp?) for everyone Christmas morning. That's always a hit.

Everyone gathered their things together and went home about 11:00 AM. We got the house back to normal and Dave put a prime rib in the oven. Mom came out for a quiet dinner. We also had some of the lefse that I made the other day. We read the Sunday paper, ate dinner, and Skyped with Jason & Bekki so that Mom could see Farrah. (First time for her to see this great grandchild)

It was a wonderful Christmas.... family, good weather, good food and a Savior. Happy Birthday, Jesus!

2011 Black Friday

This year the stores opened early. So did the online sales. I started watching the sites at 12:01 Thanksgiving morning. I got the door buster Canon camera that I wanted at 6AM. (Sale $89.99 Saved $70)

My nephew, Shaun Grover, shopped with me this year. We had fun. My mom wanted a TV this year so we were on a mission to find a bargain priced HDTV for her. Walmart had a 42" for $248, a $250 savings. Walmart started their sales at 10PM Thanksgiving Day.

I put on my "Black Friday" tee shirt and passed on the long underwear. This year it wasn't needed. The daytime highs are around 60 degrees and the night was above freezing. (much warmer than other Black Fridays that I remember.)

I met Shaun at the store at 9:30. The parking lot was chuck full so we were concerned that we might not get what we wanted with all those people there. The store had balloons marking the waiting lines for each Early Bird Special. Once we were in line, Walmart gave us a ticket guaranteeing that we would get the TV that we wanted! Score! The sales were staggered and the TV that we wanted went on sale at midnight. A Walmart employee passed out high energy drinks around 11:00.

While going through the long winding checkout line, I spotted the toy dog, Cookie, that Sierra wants for Christmas. It was $7.00 off on sale. I picked it up. The dog has a motion sensor which makes it whine and bark. After storing it in the trunk of my car, we had to listen to it whine while we were driving.

Best Buy 2:00 AM

After our success at Walmart, Shaun and I decided to stop by Best Buy to say hi to my daughter, Jamie, who is one of the managers there. Oh my gosh! We thought that Walmart had a lot of people. You couldn't even move at Best Buy. Needless to say, we couldn't find Jamie. (I was glad that I had made my Best Buy purchase online hours before.

Shaun and I drove around to see which unopened stores had lines.We also checked out Target. The check out line wrapped all the way around the store, so we made sure not to purchase anything while we were there.

We took the TV to Mom's house. She was still up...anxiously waiting for her new toy. So at 3:00 in the morning, Shaun assembled the TV for her. (I think Shaun was as excited about the TV as Mom was.) Later Mom told me that she stayed up until 4:40 AM watching her new TV. ha ha

Shaun and I made another trip to Target at about 4:00 AM. This time the checkout lines were reasonable so we purchased the $50 sewing machine that I wanted. Shaun bought coffee to stay awake.

Office Max 5:00 AM

We waited in line at Office Max for a little over an hour. A radio station served us coffee while we were. I needed to buy my Norton 360 that I get there every year. It was $60 off . I also picked up a couple other things including HP 4x6 photo paper, 100 sheets for $1. Scored again!

We finished our Black Friday Experience with breakfast at iHop at 7AM while the sun was coming up. It was a successful night! I enjoyed Shaun's company. As I dropped him off at his house, I told him that I might be asking him next year to join me again when I do my Black Friday Shopping. At the time, I didn't realize that I wasn't done yet.

On the way out of town, I decided to stop at Gordman's to pick up some of their 75% off Christmas decorations. Little did I know that I'd be in the checkout line for an hour.

Jodi Nesemeier contacted me and I met her and Savanna at Dunn Bros Coffee Shop at about 9:30 AM. I had to check out Savanna's new laptop that she had just snagged.

Finally after another stop, this time at the grocery store, I headed home. Instead of jumping in the shower and then bed, I got side tracked. (imagine me getting side-tracked, ha ha) I hung up my new outside Christmas decorations. THEN... the shower and bed at 2PM.....

It was a good Black Friday!

Jamie, Jenny and I went to Josef's Hair Style Show at the Hub. Denise Heglie had introduced me to the event a couple years ago. We happened to run into her this year. Denise was with her mom, Shirley, and daughter, Olivia. We all watched the show together.

My 59th Birthday (Pictures to come)

My birthday started early. Pam, a friend of mine, quilted me a beautiful Halloween table runner. What a surprise!

With my birthday landing on Halloween, there are a lot of people that remember it. One of the kids on my regular bus route had remembered and he announced it to the bus so everyone wished me Happy Birthday. When I was driving the shuttle bus, my bus aide - Michelle - surprised me by having the whole bus sing Happy Birthday. Then during lunch, I was summoned out front and the 2nd and 3rd graders sung Happy Birthday. Thanks to my co-worker, Jodi, they do this yearly but this year was different. Unprompted they all got up and gave me a huge group hug. Wow! It brought tears to my eyes.

Halloween evening, the trick-r-treaters met me at the door with "Trick or Treat and Happy Birthday!" They made me feel so good!

Other warm fuzzys included a Birthday card from Dula, my dad's cousin and a box of goodies from Linda! Linda sent me a hand made top that is really unique. I really like the design sewed into it. She also included a pr of sox and a pad for my coffee cup. Linda also makes the neatest hand made cards. You can tell that a lot of thought and time went into her gift.

We normally have a family meal at a restaurant for my birthday and Dave picks up the tab. (That's my present from him) This year I requested that - that money be put towards new flooring for the computer room. That request will be granted (after hunting season). But we still got together at Jamie's house for a meal for my birthday. It was was a few days late, cuz Jamie & family were in Kansas City on my birthday. Jamie fixed one of my favorite meals, fajitas, and Jenny baked me a cake.

I made a haul! (I love presents) Jamie & Ryan gave me a couple accessories for my ipad, Jason & Bekki gave me a cover/case for my ipad and Jenny & Matt gave me some boots.

I enjoyed my birthday so much, that I've requested a yearly repeat.

Road Trip to Bismarck

My co-worker Curt, and I were just pulling into Bismarck....when I discovered 2 different dates on the emails. The ESP advisory committee agenda that I had printed out said October 20th. The first email from Carla said "See you Friday". I called Leanne. She said that the meeting was Friday. Help! We were in Bismarck on the wrong day!

Instead of going to the Radisson where the meeting was to take place (the next day) we went to the high school where all the sessions were to take place. There were a lot of vendor booths where we picked up a few freebies. The sessions didn't start for another FOUR hours!

We went to the mall.... which really excited Curt. lol.

We took a leisurely lunch and went back to the school. We ran into a bunch of ESPs. They were hanging out at the NDEA booth. They kept apologizing for the date mix up. They offered to let me stay in their hotel rooms but.... they didn't offer the same thing to Curt. lol

Curt and I went to the only session that Curt found interesting... and would you believe that that session was cancelled?! So we slipped into a boring PBS session. Then Curt went out the car to take a nap. I went to a Member's Benefits session. There was one more session that I would have liked to see on technology but I didn't dare ask Curt to stay another hour.lol We left for home about 3:00.

Surprisingly Curt stopped at the Buffalo Mall in Jamestown. I couldn't help but think that if it was me and my girlfriends in the car we would have done the same thing.... but I don't think he wanted to shop... just an excuse to stretch his legs. He was really being a good sport about the whole thing.

One plus for the day was that Curt drove us to Bismarck in his little Bimmer. (that's how Curt says that it's spelled.... I'd spell it like Beemer) and it was a beautiful day for a (long) ride.

Jason & Bekki's Phone Call

We got a call from Jason and Bekki this morning. Jason asked if Dave was around. He requested that I put him on the speaker phone... which I did. I could tell that Bekki was on with jason on his speaker phone. Jason sounded so serious, I was concerned about the purpose of the phone call.

Jason asked the usual questions: What's new with you? What are you doing? etc.. Then he said to Dave: "You know that rifle that was Grandpa's? I want to donate it." Dave looked concerned. Disapprovingly he asked Jason who he was going to give the gun to. Jason answered "Our child."

Bekki is pregnant!!! Wow! What a way to tell us, ha ha. (Very clever!) How awesome is that?! They are going to have a baby! They've been trying for over a year and it finally has happened! Wow!

We chatted for a few more min. I had the urge to go buy baby presents. I'm excited!

The catch is that they don't plan on telling the world just yet.... only imediate family members. My mom and I went shopping today. We happened upon a eco-friendly boutique.... that just happens to specialize in BABY stuff. Oh how I wanted to buy something...but what reason would I give? I know that I should allow Jason & Bekki the pleasure of telling my mom... but it was SO hard not to say anything. (which I didn't) Especially when Mom exsplisticly asked "Is there anything new with Jason and Bekki?" I bit my toungue: "No," I said.

So now, I will also refrain from publishing this post until I have permission. It's so hard..Cuz I'm sooo excited.... BEKKI AND JASON ARE GOING TO HAVE A BABY! :D 3/26/11

New Granddaughter!

Jamie called me at about 10:30 pm January 25th. Contractions had started about 10:00 and they were headed to the hospital! Awesome! I had gone to bed with a wet head which meant major bed head so I fixed my hair faster than ever before and Dave and I headed for the hospital. Dave drove 5 mph UNDER the speed limit on Interstate which drove me nuts, but I held my tongue. It probably was a good thing that I wasn't driving because I would been picked up for speeding.

We found Jamie, Ryan and Sierra in a temporary room. Jamie was having heavy contractions so we took Sierra out of the room to wait in the waiting are with Dave and I. We were on the 6th floor and the waiting room had a beautiful view of the city. Sierra played with my phone and camera and I read a story to her.

Ryan kept us updated by cell phone.

12:55 am. (Jan 26) Jamie was dilated to 5cm.
1:14 am They moved Jamie into room 607
1:33 am Ryan told us that Jamie was dilated to 7cm and they were about to give her the epidural.
1:39 am Ryan asked me to call my mom and update her, which I did. I was supposed to tell Mom that "Jamie was going quick."
1:45 am Sierra finally gave in and went to sleep.

2:16 am Ryan said that Jamie finally got the epidural....which we found out later that only took hold on her right side, not her left.
2:58 am Jamie was dilated to 8-9 cm. I asked Ryan if I could see her briefly. He said yes.
3:00 am I went in to see Jamie. The doctor was seated at her feet. He told me that he had broken her water and that things would move fast now. In the room were two nurses for Jamie and one for the baby.
4:27 am Ryan sent us this picture saying that Brooklyn had arrived!

Finally at 5:30 AM we were able to go in and see the new baby. Here is a video of Sierra seeing her new sister for the first time: (Sierra was still a little hazy because we had just woken her up)

Mom and I had lunch at the shack on north Broadway. This is a restaurant that has been closed for a couple months and now has reopened. We really liked the place and the price/quality of the food. and the location.We also like the location.... not far from where Mom lives. I think that we will come here often!

Bus Drivers' (late) Christmas Party

We, school bus drivers and our spouses,

got together for a belated Christmas party at the Wild Rice Bar.

A couple of the drivers couldn't make it because of the snow.

We pooled our funds and bought our fearless leader, Vic, a jacket.

The back of the jacket says Kindred Vikings and has a backward (oops) bus on it.

Bridal Show = BTW, MY 300th POST!

Jenny and I went to the KVLY Bridal Show at the Civic Center. First we checked out all the display booths.....two floors of them. At 3:00 we watched the style show. We had fun. I enjoyed spending the afternoon with Jenny. We used to hang out together so much but that has changed. So today was a good day. I totally enjoyed it.

Family Game Night

A Snowed-In Weekend

2011 started out with a two day blizzard and then another two days

with closed roads and highways while everyone tried to dig out.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Have you made any New Year Resolutions?
Here are mine:

No Sugar! (My downfall which leads to many many un-needed calories! I've done it before... I can do it again! (My pep talk to myself)
Do a nightly walk around the house before crawling into bed. Make sure that everything is in place and the dishes are done. I also like to set out my clothes for the next day so that I don't wake Dave when I get dressed.
And here's the stretch: Keep my blog and websites up-to-date!

I also want to continue past resolutions that I've kept:

Do 50 crunches every weekday morning
Drink a detoxifying drink every morning of lemon juice in hot water.
Most important of all.... Keep God First. I start out each weekday morning by reading in the Bible.

MARCH 2010

Grover Cousins-Nite-Out at the Frying Pan.
Last December we had all gotten together at a funeral. Someone commented that it was sad that the only time we see each other is at funerals. We decided to change it. Now we're getting together the first Wednesday of every month. It's fun!

Dave bought his dad's Tahoe and he sold his pickup to his brother, Rick.

Our Bunco group gets together on the third Monday of every month. We have a lot of fun.

Fire in Kindred! Craig Roe was working in his cabinet shop when a spark ignited and the place burst into flames. Craig barely escaped. The shop and the two apartments upstairs were a total loss.
Jamie & Ryan used to live in one of those apartments a few years back. (Many memories)

On the Saturdays that I don't work, Mom and I like to go to lunch.
Each time we try to find a restaurant that we haven't been to before. This time we went to Jalapeños.

Our son, Jason, blew out his knee while snowboarding in Colorado.
He ended up needing a couple surgeries. Ouch!

Jen, Matt and Adam moved into a new apartment together. The apartment (3 level townhouse) is beautiful. It is brand new, has three bedrooms and three baths. The kitchen has granite counter tops and they have a deck. It's nice!

I went on an all-expenses paid trip to the ESP Conference in Las Vegas. I had a good time. I was surprised to find the weather cold (50 degrees) and windy. (Not as nice as when I was there when Jamie & Ryan got married) We spent most of our time indoors. Of course the temps returned to the 80's while I was boarding the plane to fly home. ha ha

We celebrated Shirley Lee's 70th birthday in the Walcott bar. There was a big turn out. Everyone loves Shirley. I can't believe that she's 70! She has so much energy and moves around like a teenager!

One March day I visited Sierra at her school. We had lunch together.
It was fun to see Sierra and for me to check out my old grade school. It's funny how the school has shrunk. ha ha
We didn't eat hot lunch at school when I was going up. We all went home to eat. Times have changed.

Our book club meets on the 2nd Thursday of every month.

Chef Matt cooked us Easter dinner. It was so good. Dave loves the idea that Jenny chose a man who likes to cook as much as he does. Dave & Matt have a lot in common.

Jenny and I went to the Kutless/Dave Lubben concert. when you look at this picture, it's hard to believe that this is the sanctuary of our church. I really enjoyed the concert. I think Jenny went just to please me.

This is our Bible study group. We've been together for many years. We meet at my house every Wednesday morning. I have learned so much from our studies!

Here's our book club again. I really should keep track of which books that we've read so that I can share that info with you. I can't even remember what coffee shop this is. Hmmmm.

Jamie had a good idea. She suggested that we start getting together on Wednesday evenings for Family Game Night. I love the idea! Granted I have to give up my bookclub, but I love being with our family! Next year Jamie and Ryan may be living in Colorado. I've got to see them every chance I get.

Here is the 22# turkey that Dave made for a Thanksgiving dinner that no one showed up for. Jen and Matt went to Matt's family's house. The weather looked threatening so pregnant Jamie and Ryan fixed their own Thanksgiving dinner safely at their own house. We still have leftover turkey (in the freezer).

Ta Da!

When the kids were growning up we had a tradition that when the Christmas tree was completely decorated we would take a "Ta Da" picture. This is the 2010 Ta Da picture.

On Family Game Night, instead of playing games we put up the Christmas tree. It was fun to listen to Jenny and Jamie talk about the different ornaments. Sierra and I put the ornaments on the tree. What do you think of her fancy glasses. They even "sing" the Happy Birthday song. I found them in a little store in downtown Fargo. I let Sierra test drive them for the evening ... even though her birthday is a month away.

Rick, Liz and Shawn DuBord came up for a weekend visit. We went to Evergreens and visited Addie.

I took pictures and this is the only one that Addie smiled on. (She looked at me strange like she thought that I was crazy taking all the pictures. Actually, I get that look from a lot of people, ha ha)

Jason (and Bekki) came home for a week to heal after knee surgery. It was wonderful having all the kids home for a meal together!

Black Friday!

Black Friday is soooo fun! I spend weeks going over the "leaked" ads to check out the great tech sales. This year I even bought a Black Friday Tee shirt to wear.

Past years the stores will have their items on sale online at the same time that the brick and mortar stores open up. Door busters specials have not available online. This year was different. I was checking the online items and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the items from all the stores (except Office Max) were marked down 24 hr early! With some door buster specials online too! Wow!

Dave & I were alone on Thanksgiving because of the weather....so I spent the day shopping online.

I was super excited to find:

There were a few items (wireless printer, 16 GB Flash drive, Blue tooth head set) that I had crossed off my list, because you have to draw the line somewhere, right?

Then I felt depressed I had been waiting for Black Friday for weeks and now instead of going to get in line for Black Friday Sales I was going to bed. All my shopping was done.

At about 2:00AM I couldn't stand it any longer. I got up and checked out the chatter online to see what people were saying about Black Friday. To my surprise, they were talking about a printer from Office Max that would be available when the brick and mortar stores opened. A $200 professional grade wireless printer for only $69.99! Wow! I had missed that...or crossed it out when I was cutting down my list. That's all I needed to read.

I got in the car and left for Fargo. Knowing that Office Max is always the last store to open (6 am) I checked out the long line at Best Buy and shorter one at Office Depot. Best Buy had porta potties this year - smart! Target had already opened and the streets and parking lots were crammed full. Office Max had NO line...only one car waiting.

I went and fueled my car and sat in the parking lot, now with two additional cars and waited. As soon as a line started forming, I put on my warmest mitts and scarf and got in line. I waited (which felt soooo normal) outside the store for 1 1/2 hr. The store employees came out early wearing elf hats. They gave out tickets (similar to BB) for those large items. They chatted with the rest of us on where we should head to get the items that we desired.

When the doors opened everyone flooded in. I grabbed my printer, glanced to see if they had the 16 GB Flash drive, that I desired but chose not to get...couldn't find it anyway... and headed to the checkout line.

You meet the nicest people in the lines on Black Friday. Which is a good thing because most of Black Friday shopping consists of standing in line to get into the store and then again trying to get out of the stores. I had mentioned that I had desired this 16GB flash Drive that was selling for only $20 but didn't see it. The gal that I was standing with got excited. Now she wanted one. She asked a sales clerk about them. He went and looked and even he didn't find it. He looked in the ad and then on display. There it was right in front of him. It wasn't flagged as a sale! There was a customer who spotted it before he did and she grabbed one. The gal standing with me and myself, got the last two! On the way to the check out, I also spotted the Blue Tooth head set (for 2/3 off) that I had crossed off my list... but I picked it up anyway.

So adding to my list of purchases:

a wireless printer ($130 off)
a 16 GB flash drive ($59off)
a Bluetooth headset ($20)

So...I got all the items that I wanted... even the few that I had crossed off my list. What a day! (I saved over $700!... granted I spent almost $700)

Jen and Matt set a wedding day. August 27, 2011.

On Wednesday, Jen and I found a wedding planner (at Barnes and Noble) that seemed just right. Small enough to carry in Jen's purse and complete enough to have all the information that she'll need. We topped off our visit at B&N by picking up a Bride's magazine. Jen has had her nose in this magazine ever since... texting me about different ideas that she's reading about.

Jen and I went to a Bridal Shop on Saturday and she tried on dresses. It was so much fun. They wouldn't let me take pictures, but I went online and captured some pictures of the dresses.

After trying on a dozen dresses, which all looked good on Jen, we narrowed it down to 4 dresses. Originally we were just going to get ideas of what dresses are available..... we didn't actually think that we would find one.... much less four! Jen wants Jamie to help make the final decision.

Saturday afternoon Jen & Matt and Dave & I visited the Hjemkomst Center. Would you believe it was all set up for a Wedding reception? We didn't even have to use our imagination...it was beautiful!

It is a perfect place for a Wedding reception. Jenny wants an outdoor wedding. Matt wants the wedding to be local. This is a perfect location. It's located in Moorhead. They can have the wedding and the reception at the same place. (Wedding outside, reception inside)

They want a very small (family only) wedding and then invite all their friends to the reception. If it rains they will use the little Stave church on the lot that holds a max of 50 people. Otherwise they will get married in front of the church.

It felt good to decide on the location of the wedding. You have to book a place a year ahead of time to get the date that you want. This place is already booked for most of next summer... but not August 27th....until today.

A year from now this couple will be standing at this same place but wearing wedding attire saying "I Do!"

We left Polly and Craig in their campsite because they were continuing their vacation. The rest of us headed for home. Troy had us stop at the Rockin R Ranch. What a neat place! Picture a RV camp ground in the hills with a bunch of camping sites. Everyone had a semi-permanent shelter all dressed up in western themes.

This is a heaven for horse lovers. Everyone brings their horses and four wheelers with them for the weekend. There are corrals, bunk houses, a mess kitchen, fire rings and trails. They have organized parties once a month with entertainment. Here are some pics:

After the Peace Garden we went back to the hotel and went down to the beach and hung out. We were sitting around, getting our feet wet and wondering why there were so many boats on the lake.... anchored out. Then we saw why. A boat brought in Mikey and Gov. John Hoeven. They were greeted by what looked like a political fund raising dinner/group. Then another surprise, a ski team came up and gave a performance complete with bare-foot skiing and pyramids.

Going on at the same time was a bachelor-ette party on the pontoon that parked to the side of us. We seemed to be in the middle of everything. Quite the show all around!

To end the day, we ate at the Oak Bar & Grill located right behind us. (The same place that we ate the night before.)

The guys went to their meeting and us girls took a nice walk down the bike path at Lake Metagoshee. We found a cute little coffee shop that occupied an old school house. the shop owner carried the theme through out the shop. We had some raspberry Chi Tea. Yum!

Dave went to Dietrich's and I stayed at our cottage. Lorie didn't want dogs at their place (even though she ended up with 3) so Jamie, Jen and I stayed at our place instead of going with the rest of the DuBords to Lorie and Brent's lake home. It sounds like they all had a lot of fun. We did too.

Saturday night we had 20 people and 7 dogs spend the night. On Sunday we ended up with 40 people 8 dogs at our place...... but surprisingly it was no hassle at all. No whining, barking or fights! Bo entertained us all day by playing fetch. Gene's dog hid from the fireworks under his chair. Ron's dogs were inside on the lower level. Max was hiding from the fireworks in the house, which left two little cuties, Sky and Mikey, for Sierra to dress up and play with. BTW, each one of the dogs sported a red, white and blue neck scarf. lol.

I think it was the best 4th of July ever. Granted we missed a lot of people in the 4th of July picture, but everyone was entertained..... tubing, swimming, eating. Jen, Jamie etc took off for part of the day on the pontoon. In fact there were 4 boats there that stayed busy. (Ron's, Matt's, my brother Bob's and the pontoon.)

We watched the fireworks from lakeside this year, tying the boats together. The weather was perfect, the lake was calm.

After the Fair Hill's fireworks Ryan and Sierra shot off their stuff. We had a bonfire and smores. Jamie went to bed early, she was understandably tired, but the rest of the kids (age 20-something) stayed at the fire until 4am. (The party pooper that I am, I went to bed at 1:30)

Monday, everyone had gone home except Jen & Matt and Jamie & Ryan and me. The water heater died so the kids found a clean place to swim and wash up...... over by the mansion. While they were gone, Dave and Kathy & Kerry showed up. We sat on the deck and had some good conversation. Kerry had brought me all the pictures that were taken at the Dietrich's. I am currently uploading them and the pictures that were taken at our cottage so you'll have to check all of them out.

Fire in Kindred

Craig Roe was working in his shop when a spark ignited the building on fire. Craig was lucky to get out because the fire spread so fast! Years ago the building housed the town's movie theater. Around five years ago our daughter, Jamie, and her husband, Ryan, lived in one of the apartments directly above the shop which was a total burn out. Now the apartment housed Zak Buse and his dad, Kenny. Fortunately no one was home in either apartment... in fact, Zak was in my school bus at the time.

Stuck in the Snow

What a day! On the way to school we got stuck in the snow. While I was snapping this picture, the kids gathered around the doorway trying to see and one of them stepped on the fire extinguisher. BIG PUFF! What a mess! On the way home from school we saw the big horse barn fire south of Horace. The kids were snapping pictures and going wild. I overheard them saying that "This was the BEST day ever on the school bus! (Maybe we all should look at the world through a child's eye)

David Sr. Dies

David died today. Most of the family was at the house. David slept all day in a hospital bed that hospice had provided. Addie was sitting by his bed, holding his hand. I ran to get my camera to "capture the moment" but when I came back she wasn't holding his hand any more... but I still snapped this picture. All of us will miss him......... 35 min after this picture was taken, David died.
